1. What are the types of fiber optic jumpers?

(1) Classification by fiber type

1. Single-mode optical fiber jumper: generally yellow, the connector and protective sleeve are blue, and the transmission distance is long.

2. Multimode optical fiber jumper: generally orange or water blue, the connector and protective cover are beige or black, and the transmission distance is short.

(2) Classification by connector type

Optical fiber jumpers can be divided into FC, ST, SC, LC, MU, E2000, MTRJ, SMA, etc. according to the connector classification. The following is a detailed description of the commonly used fiber optic jumpers:

1. FC fiber optic jumper

FC (Ferrule Connector) fiber optic jumper is one of the most common connection devices in single-mode networks. The external reinforcement method is a metal sleeve, and the fastening method is a turnbuckle. It is common on the ODF side (the most common on the distribution frame). FC connectors are generally used in telecommunications networks. The advantage is reliable and dustproof. The downside is that it takes a little longer to install.

2. ST fiber optic jumper

ST (Stab & Twist) fiber optic jumper is the most common connection device in multimode network, and it is also the most common connector type in Base10 fiber optic connection. Commonly used in fiber distribution frames. The shell is round, the fastening method is a turnbuckle, the core wire is exposed, it needs to be inserted first, and then rotate half a turn to fix the bayonet.

3. SC fiber optic jumper

SC (square connector) fiber optic patch cord is a TIA-568-A standardized connector. Due to the high price, it was not widely used in the early stage. Later, due to its excellent performance, it was gradually used with GBIC optical modules. Commonly found in routers and switches, the shell is rectangular, and the fixing method is plug-in. Unlike ST/FC, it does not require rotation.

4. LC fiber optic jumper

LC (Lucent Connector) fiber optic patch cords are usually connected to SFP optical modules. This connector is similar to, but smaller than, an SC connector. The pin and sleeve size is 1.25mm, which is half of ordinary SC and FC. The fastening method is socket latch. Its advantages and performance are good. To a certain extent, it can increase the density of optical fiber connectors in the optical fiber distribution frame. It is a good single-mode optical fiber jumper.

(3) Classified by jumper application

Optical fiber jumpers are generally divided into MTP/MPO optical fiber jumpers, conventional optical fiber jumpers, armored optical fiber jumpers, etc. according to the application of the jumper.

1. MTP/MPO fiber optic jumper: It is often used in the fiber optic line environment that requires high-density integration during the wiring process. Its advantages: simple push-pull locking structure, easy installation and disassembly, saving time and cost, and can maximize the service life .

2. Armored fiber optic jumper: common in computer rooms, suitable for harsh environments. Its advantages: no need to use protective casing, moisture-proof and fire-proof, anti-static, acid and alkali resistance, space saving and construction cost reduction.

3. Conventional fiber optic jumpers: Conventional fiber optic jumpers include OS2 9/125 single-mode simplex, OM4 40/100Gb 50/125 multimode, OM3 10Gb 50/125 multimode, OM2 50/125 multimode, OM1 62.5/125 Multi-mode, OS2 9/125 single-mode simplex, OM5 50/125 multi-mode.

Among them, OM5 fiber optic jumper is currently the most popular product. It is typically used for higher broadband applications. The outer sheath is water green, which has strong scalability, compatibility and interoperability, and can effectively reduce costs.
