Integrated wiring fiber optic distribution box installation tutorial

The optical fiber distribution box allows people to easily access the optical fibers in the box, and can well protect the optical fibers. In addition, the drawer structure also facilitates high-density wiring and good cable management. However, because optical fibers are fragile and can be easily damaged by pulling, bending, or crushing, extra care must be taken when installing optical fibers in fiber optic distribution boxes.

Fiber optic distribution boxes are now gradually becoming a common product in fiber optic cabling systems, especially in high-density cabling environments such as data centers and server rooms. Different from the traditional fixed optical fiber distribution box, the optical fiber distribution box allows people to easily access the optical fibers in the box, and can well protect the optical fibers. In addition, the drawer-style structure also facilitates high-density wiring and good cable management. However, because optical fibers are fragile and easily damaged by pulling, bending, or squeezing, we should take extra care when installing optical fibers in fiber optic distribution boxes.

The structure of the fiber optic distribution box

Before we start installing fiber optics in a fiber optic distribution box, we should first understand its construction. The 1U fiber optic distribution box is used as an example to introduce its structure. Three adapter panels can be installed on the front panel of this fiber optic distribution box. There are two spools in the box to manage the optical fibers in the box.

In the above figure, the important components of the optical fiber distribution box are marked with serial numbers, and each serial number represents:

1: Optical fiber adapter panel;

2: Bending radius control clip;

3: Front panel accessories;

4: plugs and jacks;

5: bracket;

6: Trunk or interconnect cable entry hole.

In general, installing the optical fiber distribution box can be divided into three steps: installing the optical fiber distribution box on the rack, introducing the optical cable into the optical fiber distribution box, and planning the optical fiber path in the optical fiber distribution box. The three steps are described in detail below:

Install the fiber optic distribution box in the rack

This step is very simple, we only need to install brackets on both sides of the optical fiber distribution box, and then fix the brackets to the designated position of the rack with screws. It should be noted that before installing the optical fiber distribution box, the installation direction of the distribution box should be determined according to the needs.

Introducing fiber optic cables in fiber optic distribution boxes

After the optical fiber distribution box is fixed on the rack, the optical cable can be introduced into the distribution box through the cable inlet hole. At this time, we need to prepare a suitable grommet to help us introduce and fix the optical cable in the optical fiber distribution box. The optical cable here usually uses pre-terminated branch fiber jumpers or pigtails.

Routing fiber optic cables within fiber optic distribution boxes

Since the front panel of the optical fiber distribution box can be pulled out, the length of the optical cable trunk in the distribution box should be long enough to ensure that when the front panel of the distribution box is completely pulled out, the optical cable will not bear too much tension. , the cable length between A and B should be at least 31 inches:

In addition, A, B and other necessary positions in the distribution box need to use cable ties to fix the optical cable, and movable cable ties are also used above. Individual branch cables do not need to be secured with cable ties.

After fixing the fiber optic cable trunk, you can start the routing of the branch fiber optic cable. First, connect each pre-terminated fiber optic cable to the adapter panel separately, making sure the ports correspond one-to-one; then fix the fiber optic adapter panel to the front panel of the distribution box with the bend radius control clip. During this process, be careful not to Exceeds the bend radius of individual cables.
