Integrated cabling jumper management Reasonable jumper management can be divided into five stages: planning, preparation, wiring, testing, and verification.
1. Jumper operation specification
1.1 plan
For jumper management, current and future demand planning should be done well.
1.2 preparation
Determine where ports need to be connected and reconnected and label information for the relevant ports.
There are two methods of cleaning fiber optic connectors: contact and non-contact:
Contact cleaning method:
(1) Wiping paper and anhydrous alcohol, using virgin wood pulp with special processing technology, ultra-low dust, pure texture, efficient water absorption, fine paper, will not scratch the surface of the object being wiped, use low-dust wiping paper with non-toxic Wipe the fiber optic connector with water alcohol;
(2) Non-woven fabric, does not produce lint, is strong, does not contain any chemical impurities, is silky soft, does not cause allergic reactions, and is not easy to fluff and shed. It is produced or tested as an optical fiber connector or pin. It is an ideal choice for wiping cloth for cleaning, and it is necessary to wipe the fiber optic connector with absolute alcohol during use.
(3) Cleaning cotton swabs, specially designed for internal cleaning of ceramic sleeves, or for cleaning ferrule end faces that are not easily accessible in flanges (or adapters);
(4) Professional cleaners, special cleaners for optical fiber connectors use a special roll of wiping tape, installed in a rollable shell, without alcohol, each cleaning is very effective and produces a new surface, convenient and practical.
Contactless method:
(1) Ultrasonic cleaning method, which turns the cleaning liquid into an ultrasonic "liquid column" and sends it to the end face of the connector, and recovers and sucks the waste liquid in the same small space;
(2) High-pressure blowing method, its principle is to apply cleaning liquid on the end face of the connector first, and then use high-pressure air to blow at the end face of the connector;
(1.2.4) Check the cleanliness of the fiber optic connector
After cleaning a fiber optic connector, the termination face must be inspected. The general practice is to use a magnifying glass of 100, 200 or 400 times for inspection. The figure below shows the state of the fiber termination surface in a clean state and after being polluted.
Jumper managers, no matter what method is used, it is still difficult to clean some seriously polluted connectors, and they need to use cotton swabs and alcohol and other cleaning solutions to deal with them.
After this series of preparatory work, it means that the wiring work of jumper management can start.
1.3 Wiring
The installation of the distribution frame should complete the tasks of each stage according to the operating procedures. Kinks, burrs, pinching and poor contacts in jumper construction can significantly degrade jumper performance. To avoid such problems, the following factors should be considered:
(1) Bending radius
The minimum bending radius allowed by the jumper wire needs to comply with the operating specifications of the jumper wire manufacturer.
The standard states that the minimum bend radius should be four times the cable diameter for unshielded twisted pair (UTP) and eight times the cable diameter for shielded twisted pair. The minimum bending radius of a 2-core or 4-core horizontal optical cable is greater than 25mm. If the bending radius is smaller than this standard, the relative position of the wires may change, resulting in reduced transmission performance.
(2) Jumper tension and stress
Do not use excessive force during wiring, as this may place increased stress on the jumper wires and connectors, resulting in degraded performance.
(3) Bundling
Jumper wires do not necessarily need to be bundled. If the bundled wires must comply with the manufacturer's bundled principles, do not bundle them too tightly, otherwise it will cause deformation of the twisted wires. Do not over-tighten the clamps, it is advisable that each jumper can rotate freely. Use purpose-built products, and consider products that can be used over and over again without tools, such as Velcro.
1.4 Test
(1) Although the jumper wiring has been completed, it may not be considered whether the optical fiber link or copper cable link is in full compliance with the operating specifications or the international and national standards for integrated wiring, then the optical fiber or copper cable test should be performed, only in After the test standard is met, it can be judged whether the test standard is passed or not.
1.5 Verification
(1) It is worth taking the time to do a final visual inspection of the connections. Make sure that the slack in the jumper wires is not kinked or pinched by the cabinet door.
(2) The last step is to update the records according to the current configuration and close the work orders related to the completed change requests.
With the extensive use of 10G/40G/100G networks in data centers, the installation and management of on-site jumpers has become more and more important. The quality of jumper management sometimes affects the overall channel attenuation. Good management ensures that fiber channel data transmission is at the best The operation and management of these steps, such as planning, preparation, wiring, testing, and verification, will be of great significance to ensure the quality of the system.
