Fault location
From the perspective of the point of failure, the cable network fiber-to-the-home technology is mainly concentrated in the following locations.
One is the feeder cable section. This position is usually between the optical transfer box and the OLT in the equipment room, and usually includes trunk optical cables, optical splitters, etc. This is the part where the cable network optical fiber is prone to failure at the current stage.
The second is the distribution cable segment. In this section, faults mainly occur between the optical nodes of the community and the optical transfer box. The equipment that is prone to failure includes optical splitters, distribution cables, and ONU equipment.
The third is the household fiber optic cable segment. Operation failures are also prone to occur in the optical nodes and user terminals of the community. These parts mainly include EOC head-end/terminal equipment, home cables, distributors, etc. The staff need to focus on these parts that are prone to failure. Normally, when locating a fault, the maintenance personnel should fully consider the corresponding instruction information of the wired network bandwidth network management system, give priority to detecting nodes with emergency warnings, and analyze the cause of the fault based on their own experience, so as to eliminate the source of the fault in time and restore the user normal use.
How to deal with common faults of fiber-to-the-home
The ONU terminal cannot dial
Fault characteristics: During the user's use, although the ONU connection is normal, the dial-up Internet access function cannot be realized. From the perspective of reasons, it may be caused by the following aspects:
One is that the user name and password do not match, causing the dialing to be abnormal;
Second, there is an error in the background support system, which cannot authorize the user, and it is also possible that the user goes offline abnormally during the use process, and the re-dial fails;
The third is that the ONU itself breaks down, and the signal cannot be normally mediated.
These reasons will cause the ONU terminal to fail to dial. When such a fault occurs, the staff should find the reason from the above three aspects and restore the normal dial in time.
The optical power of the user end is abnormal
Fault characteristics: The LOS light of the ONU optical port indicator on the user end flickers, and the optical power of the SC connector at the end of the leather fiber is tested, and the result is -35dB. Check the optical splitter again, and find that the signal is not abnormal. After detailed investigation, it is found that the output end of the optical splitter is abnormal, resulting in a small output optical power. When this happens, switch the interface of the splitter to realize the normal operation of the ONU.
Mosaic appears in VOD signal
Fault characteristics: When the user is using the broadband signal, there is no abnormality. When selecting a program, the screen appears mosaic. This situation is mainly checked from the following aspects:
One is that mosaics appear in on-demand programs, but not in time-shifted programs. This may be due to bandwidth congestion between NAS storage servers, resulting in on-demand peaks.
The second is that a certain program has a mosaic, but other programs do not. This may be caused by problems during recording of the source, or the push server exceeds the bandwidth range.
The third is that mosaics appear in both on-demand and time-shifting. This phenomenon is mainly found from IPQAM. It may be that the uplink switch of IPQAM exceeds the actual bandwidth, resulting in mosaics in the program.
Fault in fiber optic cable segment
From the actual situation, the frequency of faults in the fiber optic cable section is relatively high. If it is found that the light spot is not running smoothly, the processing method of the distribution cable section is adopted to analyze and troubleshoot the corresponding fault source. If there are other failures, the maintenance personnel should go to the user's site for investigation, so as to ensure the normal use of the user.
